VACCINATION PROTOCOL FOR DOGS

Although the 6 week old vaccine given by the breeder is not discouraged, it does not count toward completion of the puppy series.

It is recommended to start a puppy on his/her puppy series of vaccines at 8 weeks of age on the following schedule:

DHPP #1 AND DEWORM AND START HEARTWORM PREVENTION -- 8 WEEKS OF AGE

DHPP #2, Lepto #1 AND DEWORM -- 11-13 WEEKS OF AGE

DHPP#3, BORDETELLA, Lepto #2 DEWORM -- 14-16 WEEKS **SAFE FROM PARVO**

DHPP #4 AND RABIES 1 YEAR -- 17-20 WEEKS

All dogs under 1 year of age should complete the four vaccine series. Older dogs just beginning vaccinations or adult dogs of unknown vaccine history should receive the first three vaccines of the series. A puppy or dog can still be susceptible to canine parvo virus infection until the third vaccine of the series has been given in a timely fashion with the first two.

Once the puppy series is completed the pet goes to annual vaccinations that should include:

DHPP

LEPTO

BORDETELLA

RABIES 3 YEAR

Heartworm prevention is recommended year round to prevent infestation by round and hook worms.
